October 12 Hispanic Day of Celebration for Hurricane Relief at CREC Academy of Aerospace and Engineering
A disaster often occurs far away, but its impact can strike us close to home. Recently, we witnessed the series of hurricanes, which struck the Texas Gulf and wreaked devastation on Florida, Puerto Rico, and many Caribbean islands. To help in the relief efforts, concerned students, teachers, and staff at The CREC Academy of Aerospace and Engineering are holding a Hispanic Day of Celebration for Hurricane Relief fundraiser this Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at 1101 Kennedy Road, Windsor. The campus will be host to a variety of fundraising activities celebrating Hispanic culture. The community is invited and contributions to the relief effort are welcomed. Admission is free.
The evening will start at 6 p.m. with a potluck dinner in the cafeteria. Families are encouraged to bring their favorite Hispanic dish or desert to share family style. The cafeteria is also the site where the students will make paper flowers, hold a dominoes tournament, and sell a variety of T-shirts and fashionwear to raise money.
Attendees can also dance to the tunes of a disk jockey in the auditorium, which will be transformed into a tropical dance club. For those more athletically inclined, there will be a friendly game of fútbol (soccer) in the gym.
